Opinion Story
As i am sure Bowie sports players know, we have a new district this year. As much as it is cool to play new teams and play at new schools, Bowie has dominated the district in almost every sport. When a well known big team is constantly killing other little teams, wins don't come with as much excitement as a big on big game would.
Although i know there are reasons to the district change i think Bowie should be put back in the old district. That district consisted of Westlake, Lake Travis, Hays, Lehman, and Vista Ridge.
These schools are mostly all top notch teams and would be better competition for Bowie. I think these schools also consist of more "rivalry" games which we know would bring even more students out to the games.
This football season our dawgs had an incredible playoff run ending the year at a record of 11-2. Our 2 losses only came from Westlake and The Woodlands who would end up getting 2nd in State. Bowie handled every District game fairly easy going a perfect 5-0. the closest game of our district games was against Manor and the Dawgs still took the W by 16 points. Other than the Varsity the JV and Freshman team also both brought home a district championship.
This basketball season our Dawg ended with a 19-9 record. Only 2 of those losses came during district games. The Dawgs won district and clinched a playoff birth but lost to a non-district Cedar Ridge.
Bowie baseballs Varsity team is the only team struggling right now as there over all record is 14-10 which is still 4 games over .500. Although the Varsity's season isn't going as planned, The JV1 and JV2 (freshman) teams are definitely holding there weight. With only 2 district games in the season for each team, the JV team has had a great season with only 1 district loss so far and the JV2 team is also shining with only 3 total losses and undefeated in district so far. Both teams could see a district championship in the near future.
Girls Freshman basketball also took home District in there Freshman and varsity teams. The Lady dawgs had a great season with an overall record of 21-13.
The girls Softball team also just ended their season bringing home district in both their JV and Varsity teams.
The main idea of this was to explain that beating up a team(s) in games are fun but not always whats best. Winning a baseball game 33-0 is one thing but winning a game 2-1 vs a good team will bring out the best of the team and each player. A well known power house school like Bowie deserves challenging games and deserves the feeling of beating a great team.
